Hylda Sims writes novels, poetry and songs. She has worked as folk singer, Elizabethan minstrel, skiffle singer, communard, teacher and single parent. She co-ran Poetry & Jazz at the Poetry Cafe for the Poetry School for seven years. Her narrative sequence of poems, Reaching Peckham has been set to music and performed at Dulwich Festival and on the London fringe. Her novel, Inspecting the Island, based on the free school, Summerhill, where she was a pupil, was published in 2000. Her most recent poetry & song collection, Saying the Babel, was published by Hearing Eye.
Melanie Mauthner‘s first piece of fiction ‘Prudence’ was published in My Cheating Heart (Honno, 2005). Her short story ‘The Lido’ won first prize in Lambet’s ‘Impressions of Brixton’ competition in 2003. She also writes non-fiction and her most recent book is Sistering (Palgrave, 2005). She lives in South London.
